How many Ads are good for a website?

The moment I visit a website and I see that it is so clogged with ads that get really frustrated. There should be limit to the number of ads that are on a site, as it reduces the performance of the website itself.
I am not against ads, but it should be in moderation.

There was a time when I was using as many as 5 ad units, sometimes these ads were from different advertisers and sometimes from the same advertiser. These days I stick to just one advertiser and limit to two ad units per page.
